Other: When Rikke was six years old, she experienced her first epileptic seizure. Because of this, she was not bred again. She had between one and four seizures per year until she was eleven years old, but during the last two years of her life she had no further seizures.
Rikke came from a litter of ten puppies, and none of her littermates had epilepsy. None of her offspring developed epilepsy either, and I have no information about epilepsy in any close relatives. It is therefore possible that her condition was caused by something other than heredity. Nevertheless, I take it into consideration as though it were hereditary.
Rikke was spayed at nine years of age.

About Rikke
Rikke was my third Flatcoat and the foundation of my breeding program.
She lived with me from the age of 7.5 weeks until she was 12 weeks old, after which she moved to a foster home. However, she visited me frequently, and when she was three years old, she moved back home with me permanently. Had I not been living in an apartment and already had three dogs when I got Rikke, she would have stayed with me from puppyhood. Still, I am grateful that I got to spend ten years with her in my home.
Rikke was the niece of Spiff (born 2005), my second Flatcoat, who in turn was the cousin of my first Flatcoat, Casir (born 2003).
Rikke was a truly wonderful dog—confident and fearless, gentle and kind with others, and blessed with endless patience for puppies and young dogs. She was quick to learn, fun to train, and wonderfully easy and uncomplicated to live with.
I did some retriever work and obedience training with her, and after only a few weeks of focused training she achieved 2nd place with a 1st Prize and 184.5 out of 200 points in Obedience Class I. She may have lacked a little hunting drive, and because she came back to live with me as an adult, I quickly set aside any ambitions for retriever hunting tests and working tests. However, she thoroughly enjoyed flushing birds on walks in the forest and was always happy to retrieve a few dummies during training sessions.
Rikke charmed most people she met with her cheerful and gentle nature, and she was also the perfect demonstration dog at training courses. I used to say that Rikke was so easy that she was almost a little boring—but I always meant that as a compliment. It was almost as if she had been born obedient.
Rikke will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will be forever grateful that she was mine ❤️
