About Whisper

Whisper was the puppy I didn't dare sell because he stood out from all the other puppies in the litter in a negative way. He was very fearful of new things and did not recover well from frightening experiences. Fortunately, he proved all the gloomy predictions wrong and grew into a well-adjusted dog who quickly bounced back if something seemed scary. Once he had done something once, it was no problem the next time. That said, his intense personality could be a bit much for some people.

Like his sister Wish, Whisper received limited and somewhat inconsistent training for various reasons. Even so, he was incredibly fun to train, and I only wish I had had much more time to spend with him. I will always miss the joy in his eyes whenever he got to retrieve a dummy or join us on a pigeon hunt. Whisper had a strong hunting drive and an enormous capacity for work. In everyday life, he was a wonderful companion on walks and adventures. He was never far from my side, and coming when called was one of his favorite things in the world. Whenever he was given a task, he would light up with enthusiasm. He was a fantastic partner on ski trips, running alongside a bicycle, and joining us on paddling excursions.

Whisper had many positive qualities, but also a few negative ones. Among them was that he did not like puppies. For that reason, I chose not to breed from him, as temperament is the single most important factor to me when selecting breeding dogs, and I consider that trait a serious flaw.

Whisper's best friend was his half-brother Six, and they had a daily ritual of intensely licking each other's mouths. The two shared a sofa in the room where they stayed when they were not with the rest of us in the house, and they often slept curled up next to one another. Their littermate brother Zazu was also warmly welcomed whenever he came to visit.

I used to say that Whisper always had something to say, because he often used his voice to communicate with us. Not because he wanted attention, but because he simply had to bark to say hello, even if we had only been in another part of the house. Like most of Swim's offspring, Whisper could open doors in both directions, though he only ever did so to get to one of us.

Whisper was a wonderful and charming boy with a big personality—always eager to train, obedient, and incredibly affectionate. He could lie in your lap for hours and, like his mother, gave the very best hugs.

He is deeply missed ❤️
