About Wish
Wish is a lovely, sweet, and charming dog with a strong hunting drive. She has been somewhat affected by limited and inconsistent training for various reasons, so she did not debut in BK (beginner class) until she was 2.5 years old and in AK (novice class) until she was 5.5 years old.
Like her mother, Wish’s strength lies in independent work. She typically marks well and carries out efficient, wide-ranging searches. She has good speed and stamina, and soft, gentle retrieves. On pigeon shoots she is in her element, and it is very clear that this is something she truly loves.
Unfortunately, Wish can show a bit of noise (soft whining) in certain training or trial situations, which first appeared when she was around five years old. Because of this, it is uncertain whether she will continue in hunting trials. However, we greatly enjoy training together, and she will also continue to compete in working tests.
Wish has also been on a few small duck shoots, and in November 2025 she finally had the opportunity to take part in partridge and pheasant hunting in Sweden. There was not a great deal of game, but she worked very nicely on the birds she did encounter. I was especially impressed when she was sent to search an area of tall grass where I had no idea where the bird might be. Within about a minute, she returned with a wounded partridge. That felt very impressive for her first hunt of this type, in such a game-rich environment.
In everyday life, she is a typical Flatcoat—social, happy, and friendly, but without excessive licking. She wags her whole body and is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever had. Like the rest of the pack, she is also an excellent running companion for skiing and cycling.
Indoors, she is very affectionate and often likes to lie on your lap. Within the pack, she will stop the other dogs if she feels their play becomes too rough—even though she herself can sometimes play the roughest of all—so we often call her the “police dog.” However, she is actually very soft, and if she meets resistance, she immediately backs off.
She is also incredibly sweet when she does exactly what her father used to do: she will walk up to the other dogs when they are resting and gently tap them with her front paws while wagging her tail in a friendly way. She has never stopped being a mother figure to Please and usually starts the day by grooming her face.
On walks, she is the dog that tends to run the furthest and most independently of all the Flatcoats, so although she is not quite at pointing-dog level, there is a hint of setter in her.
Wish was a very good mother to her puppies. I have a strong wish to keep another daughter from her, as I am extremely pleased with Please and her siblings, so we are crossing everything for a final litter from her in summer 2026.
Fun Facts
Wish can, like her father and most of his offspring, open doors both ways.
When she is happy, Wish is very “talkative.” Not barking, but a kind of soft mixture of howling and whining.
When especially excited to see them again, Wish will gently grab the coat of the other dogs (or cats). She is always very happy to see them after they have been apart—and I think she loves the cats a bit more than they love her.
Wish has seven incisors, but otherwise a perfect bite!
