Other: Snow has been a very healthy dog throughout her life. She had kennel cough when she was young and had an inverted teat that became infected; it returned to normal after she had puppies. At the age of 8, she had a couple of fatty lumps removed; otherwise, she has only visited the vet for routine health checks, vaccinations, and in connection with pregnancy.

The litter Snow comes from can truly be described as quite remarkable. As of December 2025, all eight littermates—two females and six males—are still alive and in excellent health at over 10 years of age. The average lifespan of Snow’s dam and her littermates is over 11 years, which is very promising ❤️

Breeder: Kennel Flatgold

Offspring

Snow has had two litters, one in 2019 and one in 2022. The first litter was with our own wonderful Swim, producing five females and two males. I kept Wish and Whisper here at home.

The second litter was with the legendary Pete, from which one female and one male were born. I had already promised a female and a male to their future owners, so there were none kept from this litter, and Frost moved to Snow’s breeder Inka in Germany at 15.5 weeks of age.

I have received very positive feedback about these dogs. Nine out of eleven offspring have been awarded in hunting trials or working tests, and three of them have also achieved results in obedience or rally obedience. Sadly, our own Whisper passed away from cancer in the summer of 2025, and he is deeply missed every single day. Read more about the litters under previous litters.

Grandchildren

Snow is the grandmother of a litter of four puppies born in 2023, from which we kept the lovely Please, and a litter of three females in Germany at kennel Flatgold’s after Frost in 2025. One lives in Germany and two live in England.

About Snow

I picked up Snow in Germany when she was 15 weeks old, and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. What an amazing dog she turned out to be! Snow is, in every way, a wonderful dog; she is happy and friendly towards everyone she meets and very stable in temperament, which allows me to use her in classes with dogs that struggle with dog encounters. She also works very well as a pulling dog, both for skiing and cycling. She is, without a doubt, the most affectionate dog I have ever had, and she gives the best hugs.

Snow is small and fast, with a strong hunting drive. It is a good thing she is obedient, otherwise she would be chasing both moose and roe deer. Her greatest strength in hunting training has always been her independent work; she consistently shows fantastic search work and is a skilled marker.

She is willing to cooperate and is very responsive to stop signals, but she has always found it difficult to understand hand signals. After starting a few times in EK with a 3rd prize as a result, I made the difficult decision to retire her from competition. A lot happened around the same time she was supposed to compete in EK (open). First, there was uncertainty around a possible canine disease and resulting cancelled trials, then COVID followed with more cancelled events. At the same time, I met Kristian, I started experiencing frequent vertigo attacks, and eventually I had to admit that I did not have the capacity to bring her to the level required. But Snow is of course still allowed to join training sessions for as long as she enjoys it.

Since 2020, she has joined pigeon hunts every autumn, where she is absolutely fantastic. It is very clear that hunting is her life! In the autumn of 2025, she also took part in duck hunting and partridge hunting in Sweden. There was not much game, but she still did a very good job on the retrieves she got and behaved impeccably.

Snow is now soon to be 11 years old, but you would never guess it. She is still very playful and very fit. Her fur is still completely black, though she has developed a few grey whiskers. Not long ago, someone even thought she was a young dog. I hope she will stay with us for many more years!

Fun facts

  • Snow almost always sleeps with the tip of her tongue sticking out.

  • Ever since she was a puppy, she has suckled on teddy bears, blankets, and duvets.

  • When she gets very happy, especially in the mornings, she lets out a kind of howl.

  • She also has the cutest “trust fall” – she sits with her back to us on the sofa and leans/falls backward when she wants cuddles.
